The Sticky Note Approach:
Remind Yourself Who You Are
Life can get overwhelming, and sometimes it’s hard to remember just how amazing you are. Enter the Sticky Note Approach—a simple yet powerful daily practice to fill your life with encouragement and self-love. Here's how it works, why it’s effective, and how you can make it part of your routine.
What Is the Sticky Note Approach?
It’s simple:
Write self-love and encouragement notes for yourself.
Stick them in the places you see most—your bathroom mirror, car visor, fridge, or anywhere your day takes you.
These notes act as constant reminders of your unique strengths, your resilience, and the amazing qualities you might forget when life gets tough.
Think of them as pep talks from your past self for the moments when you need them most. OR your future self cheering you on.
Why It Works—Backed by Science
Your brain is incredibly adaptive, thanks to a process called neuroplasticity. When you repeat positive affirmations (like the ones on your sticky notes), your brain forms new neural pathways, making it easier to believe and embody those messages over time.
Here’s what happens:
Activates Reward Centers: Studies show affirmations light up brain areas responsible for self-worth and motivation (like the ventral striatum and medial prefrontal cortex).
Reinforces Positivity vs. Stress: This practice can reduce cortisol (the stress hormone) and turn your inner critic into your biggest cheerleader.
Builds Resilience: Over time, you shift from focusing on your perceived flaws to truly seeing your strengths.
Every sticky note is like a seed of positivity for your brain, rewiring it for confidence, calm, and hope.
How to Start Your Sticky Note Routine
Craft Personal Affirmations
Use affirmations that truly resonate with you. Make them short, specific, and meaningful.
“I am stronger than I think.”
“Each day, I’m one step closer to my goals.”
“I deserve love, joy, and success.”
Place Notes in Strategic Spots
Your Bathroom Mirror for a morning boost.
Car Visor for a midday pick-me-up.
Desk or Computer Screen for workday motivation.
Fridge or Closet Door for casual reminders.
Say Them Out Loud
When you see a note, pause and say it out loud with conviction. Speaking them strengthens their impact and builds self-belief.Refresh Regularly
Update your sticky notes weekly or whenever you feel the need to adapt them to current challenges or goals. Reflect on the existing ones to see how far you’ve come.
The Benefits You’ll See
A kinder, more supportive inner voice.
Increased resilience in the face of challenges.
A daily “reset” to focus on what’s true about you—not your doubts.
A growing belief in your own abilities, one sticky note at a time.
When life feels heavy, your notes have your back. They’re proof of your power, even on the days you doubt it.
